The School of Labour Studies is very pleased to announce that Dr. Stephanie Ross is joining our faculty as an Associate Professor.

Dr. Ross’ research and teaching engage the theme of how ordinary people make social change through collective action in the face of powerful forces to the contrary. Her work has been most preoccupied with the question of how such movements can effectively create more egalitarian socioeconomic arrangements while also fostering deep forms of democratic participation. For the past decade, she has been studying public sector unionism and exploring the practice of social unionism in the Canadian labour movement and assessing the extent to which labour activism beyond the workplace is helping to revitalize workers' power.

Along with research interests and publications that have earned her a national reputation, Dr. Ross has been active in raising the profile of Labour Studies nationally and internationally. In her previous position as Associate Professor, Department of Social Science, York University, Dr. Ross was centrally involved in establishing the Global Labour Research Centre and was coordinator of the Work and Labour Studies Program. She is currently the president of the Canadian Association of Work and Labour Studies.

Welcome, Dr. Ross!
