Join a pioneering feminist, union leader, and politician for an evening of stories from the front lines of labour and social change.
The McMaster University School of Labour Studies, Epic Books and CUPE locals 932, 3906, and 7800 invite you to an author talk with Judy Darcy on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Main Gallery of the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre.
Darcy is a lifelong labour and social justice advocate who became one of the first women to lead a major national union in Canada as National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. She later served as an NDP MLA and British Columbia’s first Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.
Drawing from her book, Leading from the Heart: The Battles of a Feminist, Union Leader and Politician, Darcy will reflect on her experiences confronting layoffs, public-service cuts, workplace inequality, and the political forces shaping workers’ lives. Her story traces a remarkable journey from the union hall to the cabinet table while showing how feminist politics, trade unionism, and collective action can create meaningful change.
The event will be held at the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre, 51 Stuart Street, Hamilton. All are welcome.
Register for Judy Darcy: Leading from the Heart.
