Ontario under Doug Ford – What Happened, and Where are We Going?

Tuesday, September 25, 11:00 am – 12:30 p.m., Wilson Community Room (LRW 1003)

Sep 24, 2018

Most voters chose Doug Ford’s PC government because they wanted change. And that is certainly what we are getting, including cancelation of the basic income pilot, cutting sex ed, overturning carbon pricing, and slashing the size of Toronto Council. As Premier for less than 3 months, Ford is also testing the limits of Canada’s democratic institutions by limiting media access, changing procedural rules in the legislature, and threatening use of the notwithstanding clause. All of this is creating stiff public resistance, suggesting that we are in for a challenging four years.

Moderated by the Public Leadership for Change Distinguished Visiting Professor Dave Levac, who brings his perspectives as two-term Speaker of the Ontario Legislature (2011-2018). Join Professor Levac, along with panelists Dr. Henry Jacek, Dr. Greg Flynn, Dr. Peter Graefe, Dr. Stephaine Ross, and PhD candidate Rachel Barnett, as they discuss recent events and new challenges under Mr. Ford’s “for the people” government.

Hosted by the McMaster Political Science Students Association and the Political Science Department. Food and refreshments will be provided.

We hope to see you all there!
